Overall Grade: B+
Positves: This is one of those "I've been meaning to see it, but never got around to it" films on my list that I've finally seen. The best way I can describe this film is as a very, very creepy episode of The Waltons. The film is set on a New England farm in 1935 and uses this setting not for nostalgia, but to establish an eerie tone and mood.
Negatives: Early parts of the film were a bit too hokey and "cornpone" and I also thought the twin protagonists overacted a bit. Furthermore, being an experienced horror fan, I predicted the film's major plot point a bit early. However, I must keep in mind that this film was made in 1972-audiences back then probably didn't see it coming.
Would I see it again? YES This is not a "boo" horror film, but it will haunt you. It takes its time, grows increasingly creepy and leads to an ending that is particularly unsettling. (NOTE: Look for a young John Ritter in a small role.)
